Everything
you need to know to start your own chapter
First
thing, take a few minutes to look over our web site at our web
site: www.umme.org
There
you will find our bylaws and other good stuff, but here are a
few other things you might want to know.
a.
You do not have to be a member of the UMC to be a member of the
UMME, only to hold office.
b. There is no
financial obligation to members or the host Church. A UMME
Chapter finances depend on
donations that are taken up on rides. It is not required to
donate either. But you will find that folks don’t mind
donating a dollar when it will go towards a good purpose. Many
Chapters use this money for their needs but most of the money
will be spent on mission projects of their choice, i.e.
Christmas for Children or any project selected or created by the
UMME Chapter. There are no dues to be a UMME member!
c.
Colors for your vest or jackets are available only thru the UMME
National and this money is used strictly for UMME advertisement,
mailings etc.
d. You will find this a different ministry from most any other.
You will ride and thru the magic of motorcycling, people will
want to ride with you. This is where you demonstrate Christian
fellowship. There are a lot of people out there that once they
get to know you they aren’t so bashful about visiting the
Church now that they know someone that will be there. That is
one of our greatest gifts here. Get them in the door and let God
do the rest. You will find that when you wear your colors that
people are inquisitive. A lot of people know that the Cross and
the Flame represents the
United
Methodist
Church
but they want to know more when they see it on a biker.
e. We are trying to publish a quarterly newsletter where all the
Chapters will know what’s going on in other Chapters. We will
do stories on any and all Chapters that send in articles.
f. The Bylaws states how many officers each Chapter will have
but there are ways around this for small Chapters. We even have
a one member Chapter in west
Texas
so all things are possible.
This is a great ministry and all you have to do is ride, ride,
ride and foster good Christian fellowship!
Send
us your address and we can send you a starter pack. To start a
Chapter email the webmaster (his email address is on the
website) stating you are starting a new Chapter, where it is and
give the email address of all of the officers. It is that easy.
